2023 Hyundai Palisade vs. 2023 Dodge Durango

The 2023 Hyundai Palisade is a big SUV with a lovely interior, comfortable riding experience and outstanding safety scores. But how does it compare to the 2023 Dodge Durango, an SUV which is sought after for its powerful engine, robust chassis and tech rich interior?

Design & Style

The Dodge Durango has three rows which can seat up to seven people. It is Dodge’s flagship crossover and has a very attractive and muscular appearance. Its newest features for this year include the option of all or rear wheel drive, an automatic eight speed transmission and the discontinuation of the SRT Hellcat. Passengers within the cabin will get their infotainment from ten inch touch displays.

The Palisade also has three rows but can seat eight passengers. It is Hyundai’s most powerful SUV and has a palatial exterior with a cabin that is airy and comfortable, especially when purchased in Calligraphy trim. Intricate chrome ribbons can be seen in front and within the cabin passengers will sit in supple leather seats covered in nappa leather that is quilted. It comes with eighteen inch wheels by default but buyers have the option of upgrading to twenty inches.

Technology & Safety

Both the NHTSA and IIHS love the Hyundai Palisade, so much that they gave it their highest awards, which are a perfect five star rating and Top Safety Pick+. It is outfitted with numerous countermeasures such as emergency automated brakes, parking sensors, blind area monitoring, and activated lane control with airbags. Amenities within the cabin include keyless start, ten inch touch displays, cooled and heated seats, a camera with surround view and dual paned sunroof.

The Dodge Durango has lousy safety reviews. It doesn’t offer standardized impact avoidance tech, and federal testers gave it a 4 star review rather than five while the IIHS gave it a marginal grade for its frontal small overlap impact test. Its cabin amenities include wireless updates, navigation system, leather seats, air conditioning and premium audio.

Performance

Those that purchase the Dodge Durango will get a V6, 3.6 liter engine that can generate 300 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in 5 seconds. Because of its large wheels and lower riding suspension, the Durango isn’t well suited to off-roading. The Hyundai Palisade is powered by a V6, 3.8 liter engine that can generate 291 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in 7 seconds.

The Bottom Line

Both SUVs are nearly tied when it comes to performance, but the Palisade seats one more passenger has a slight edge in fuel economy and a significant advantage in safety credentials. And the Dodge Durango lacks standardized driver assistance and its ride is rather stiff, and this makes the Hyundai Palisade the winner.
